Spatial variation and biovectoring of metals in gull faeces

چکیده

We assessed the spatial variation in concentrations of ten metals faeces lesser black-backed gull (LBBG) Larus fuscus wintering at seven localities South-West Spain. found high faeces, with several elements (As, Cu, Mo, Pb, Zn) locally exceeding (by 2 to 11 times) derived Lowest Effect Level (LEL) values. also strong variation, related main pollution sources associated different sites. Faeces from Chipiona Port (Gulf Cádiz) showed highest levels As; Cetina saltpans (Bay ranked first for Zn and which was consistent historic mining industrial pollution; Doñana ricefields Mn, a highly available element flooded areas; while landfills Cd, Co, Cr, Cu Ni, potentially electronic waste. Furthermore, we demonstrate how faecal analysis can be used quantify biovectoring into specific localities, using LBBG movement ecology census data. At Fuente de Piedra, shallow, closed-basin lake important waterbirds, show that metal inputs by have increased recent years, long-term deposition (e.g., Pb) may impact aquatic communities ecological processes this Ramsar site.

Origin and spatial distribution of metals in agricultural soils

Presence of toxic metals in agricultural soils can impose adverse health impact on consumers. The main purpose of this study was to determine spatial distribution of elements Fe, Sb, Mn in agriculture soils and crops of Hamedan Province in Iran. Soil samples (0-20 cm depth) were collected from an area of 2831 km2.  Iron, Antimony and Manganese in samples of soil and agricultural crop...

Spatial and Temporal Variation in the Dietary Ecology of the Glaucous-winged Gull Larus Glaucescens in the Pacific Northwest

The widespread distribution of contaminants in marine environments is of global concern, particularly for those compounds that do not readily degrade and are relatively volatile, such as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) (Jones & De Voogt 1999, Tanabe 2004). POPs are a group of lipophilic compounds that accumulate in fatty tissues of organisms, leading to their bioaccumulation and biomagnifi...

Spatial Distribution and Seasonal Variation of Heavy Metals in Water and Sediments of Taihu Lake

Heavy metal distribution in aquatic ecosystems can be influenced by a variety of factors. In this study, the spatial distribution and seasonal variation of heavy metals (Cd, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cr, and Pb) in lake water and sediments of different lake zones of a large, shallow, eutrophic freshwater lake, Taihu Lake, were investigated. Metal concentrations in the river water, bloom assemblages, and macr...
